Discover a sustainable world for our future

BBE undergraduate programs integrate engineering, science, technology, and management into all degree programs taught by internationally recognized faculty.

Explore our two majors:

Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering

Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering (BBE) prepares students to solve real-world problems with practical, sustainable solutions. We bring together biological sciences, engineering principles, and technology to address society's growing demands for material, food, and energy using renewable resources. This major offers three specializations:

Bioproducts engineering uses science and engineering principles to develop new and sustainable ways to make products, including biofuels, bioenergy, biodegradable plastics, building materials, paper, and chemicals.

Environmental and ecological engineering focuses on engineering applications for land and water resources, air and soil quality, environmental remediation, ecosystem services, and ecological restoration.

Food engineering designs and develops systems for production, processing, distributing, and storing food and agricultural materials.

Major Highlights:

  • Over 75% co-op and internship placement rates for our undergraduates
  • Over 95% job placement rates
  • $64,857-$80,000 estimated starting salary of our graduates
  • 4+1 Integrated Degree Program—earn two degrees (bachelor’s and master’s) with our 5-year integrated program

Sustainable Systems Management

Sustainable Systems Management (SSM) develops innovative leaders to help solve complex environmental, social, and economic problems such as mobility, shelter, water, food, and communication, in more sustainable ways. Undergraduates apply core competencies in systems thinking, life cycle assessment, industrial symbiosis, and circularity to one of four specializations within the SSM major:

Sustainable Products Business Management: Develop, and bring to market products that are renewable, circular, regenerative, and safe over their whole life cycle, from cradle to grave.

Corporate Sustainability SystemsBuild and implement new and evolving organizational strategies and operations that create long-term stakeholder value through the improvement of environmental protection, social justice and equity, and economic development.

Building Science and Technology: Advance sustainable and systemic solutions to enhance the energy, material efficiency, and health performance of houses and building systems.

Energy Systems: Accelerate the sustainable energy transition to smart, renewable electricity and fuel systems.

 Major Highlights:

  • Over 94% job placement rates
  • $46,500-$80,000 estimated starting salary of our graduates
