Student summer highlights

Meet Jane Schaefer, a Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering major! This summer, she is interning at Ramboll, an environmental consulting company in Los Angeles, CA! Jane works in the Air Quality division, with some of her projects entailing calculating smog-forming emissions, such as NOx and PM, ensuring compliance for diesel generators in data centers, and modeling operational emissions in AERMOD and ArcGIS. Pictured below, Jane is holding bees from her building's urban beehive, which produces sustainable local honey for the area.


Meet Owen Mischio, a Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering Major. Owen works with the Minnetonka Department of Natural Resources as a seasonal restoration technician. Owen’s main responsibility is removing invasive species like garlic mustard, buckthorn, etc. He also helps with tasks like planting, mapping of areas and updating GIS, some inspections of construction sites for erosion control purposes, and so much more. Owen also gets to see a lot of wildlife creatures when he goes out in the woods!


Meet Eilee Keske and Peter Rubin, both Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering majors, have been working in the biomass conversion lab with Professor Ulrike Tschirner in Kaufert Lab as research assistants this summer. They are testing the effects that various industry chemicals have on the paper-making process! 


Meet Josie Khan, a Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering Major currently has an internship at the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization! Josie works with MWMO to protect and improve water quality, habitat, and natural resources in the urban watershed that drains directly into the Mississippi River!


Meet Max Pearson, a Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering major, has an internship at Land O'Lakes Inc. in Tulare California working in the quality department at the Butter and Milk Powder Plant. "BBE classes and experiences have helped me out a lot during the internship".
