Faith Rabideau - She/Her
Pursuing a Bachelor of Sustainable Systems Management
Anticipated graduation date: Spring 2025
Where are you from? Describe what your hometown and/or family is like?
I'm from Menomonee Falls, WI. Its a pretty typical midwest suburb. Its right outside of Milwaukee connecting it with the hustle of the city, but is far enough away where you can get out in nature. A little bit about my family, I have two younger siblings. Despite us teasing each other we get along really well. My parents have always encouraged us to follow our passions and have supported us as we perused them.
Why did you choose the SSM major?
I choose this major because it combines my passion for sustainability with my interests in construction. I can remember back to my junior year of high school searching for sustainability majors that "fit me". There were plenty of schools that offered some form of environmental studies but it just seemed to be missing something. Then I stumbled upon the building science track in SSM. Once I read the description I knew that was what I wanted to study.
What has been a favorite course, project, or experience in the SSM program so far?
One of my favorite classes what a testing and diagnostics class I took the spring semester of my junior year. I enjoyed learning about all the different testing strategies to find home performance issues. As I was learning about these strategies I could see myself using these to help homeowners in the future improve their home performance with out having to buy a whole new house.
What student groups or extracurricular activities are you involved in and why?
This year I'm involved with the Solar Decathlon. I'm excited to apply the knowledge I've learned from my classes on a real world project. In addition, I play piccolo in the University of Minnesota Marching Band. I enjoy how much we interact with and being a positive force in the community.
What are your career goals after graduation?
After graduation I want to get a full time job that involves improving home performance. Preferably one that requires my to be engaged with the community.
Is there anything else you'd like to share with the SSM community?
I really love how friendly everyone in the SSM and BBE program is. It makes the community atmosphere very welcoming!
