Ben Weber - He/Him
Pursuing a Bachelor of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering
Anticipated graduation date: Spring 2026

Where are you from? Describe what your hometown and/or family is like?
I'm from Edina, Minnesota. I grew up with my mom, dad, younger sister, two dogs and two cats. My parents thought it was important for us to experience travel, leading us to places like Mexico, Costa Rica, France and Italy. We also spent a lot of time with creating a group of family friends, with whom I essentially grew up with.
Why did you choose this major?
I chose BBE because it combines my affinity for engineering, physical sciences, and design, while also focusing on sustainability, a hugely important factor for me.
What has been a favorite course, project, or experience in the SSM program so far?
So far, my favorite course in BBE was Fluid Transport, because it made me feel like I was finally doing actual engineering work. I loved the empirical equations and empirical charts from the 1940s and 1950s.
What student groups or extracurricular activities are you involved in and why?
I'm on the executive board of the FaBEO, the student group for BBE. Last year, I was a project lead, directing a fermentation and algae project. This year, I'm the treasurer.
What are your career goals after graduation?
After graduation, I want to work in either engineering consulting, or industry. Honestly, I would like to move to another country to work, such as France or Colombia. I'm uncertain about future education. I'm interested in getting an MBA, or potentially a PhD, much further down in my career.
Is there anything else you'd like to share with the BBE/SSM community?
Come to FaBEO; love yourself and what you do.
