Welcome to the Senior Capstone Final Presentations and Reception!
Presentations will be live at the Saint Paul Student Center and via Zoom. Presentations are 20 minutes with an additional 5 minutes for audience questions. To access the online presentation simply click on the room link in the ‘Schedule at a Glance’ below.

3:00p | Biogas Purification Team Members: Nick Ramberg, Olivia Banner, Kate Kuse, Stephanie Boemer Engineering Challenge: Conduct an engineering economic analysis to determine the most feasible option for utilizing energy from 130 cfm of biogas coming from the plant's anaerobic digester. |
3:00p | Minnesota Pollution Control Agency: True Cost of a Construction & Demolition Landfill Team Members: Will Barford, Ana Figueroa Arteaga, Madelyn Kinny, Katie Nesheim, Russell Williams Challenge Summary: Using real economic data and environmental modeling results, students quantified the economic and environmental costs associated with the life cycle of a construction & demolition landfill. |
3:00p | Keys4/4Kids: Alternative Waste Streams for Piano Materials Team Members: Madeline Lange, Leonel Penaloza, Nolan Tierney Challenge Summary: Using data from a non-profit organization, students evaluated the environmental and economic costs of different waste pathways of retired piano components. |
3:30p | Condensate Recovery and Reuse Team Members: Rylee Banaszak, Sophia Fredeen, Madison Stoltzman, Alexander Hilde Engineering Challenge: Design a system to capture and reuse condensate water from a falling film evaporator. |
3:30p | Elk Dam Removal and Restoration Team Members: Morgan Raymond, Austin Johnson, Hope Ashley Olivia Engineering Challenge: Design a system to restore a site and mitigate downstream impacts impacted by the removal of a dam. |
3:30p | Urban Farm & Garden Alliance: Establishing a Cardboard Mulch Supply Chain Team Members: Garrett Davis, Nick Hoien, Aaron Putnam, Callyn Tice, Kiersten Wille Challenge Summary: Students mapped out a potential supply chain for cardboard mulch for urban gardeners, and quantified associated greenhouse gas emissions. |
3:30p | Health Partners: Establishing Metrics for Measuring Success of Clinic-Level Waste Reduction Plan Team Members: Maya Ballbach, J’ianna Cager, Lauren Nichols, Alicia Quartz Challenge Summary: In partnership with a pilot clinic, students assessed current waste management practices and established metrics for establishing a waste reduction program. |
