The internship will provide the opportunity to gain hands-on industrial research experience to genetically modify yeast and bacteria, the fundamentals of microbial growth and enzyme assay. The intern is expected to join as part of our on-going R&D effort, and there is no fixed end date. There is an opportunity to convert the internship into a full-time job, pending on satisfactory performance and company needs. The work hours are flexible with a minimum of 10 hours per week and can be worked around class schedules. The internship is set to start January 2019.
The intern will work with other scientists on strain development campaigns which includes designing and planning molecular biology strategies, implementing and evaluating the outcome of the strategies and troubleshooting.
- Masters degree candidates in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics or Microbiology preferred; undergraduates in their junior or senior years also considered, but will have to demonstrate outstanding technical ability
- Hands-on experience in basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, transformation, and restriction digests
- Ability to work independently while observing all safety procedures
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
