2 Positions: Paper Mill Co-Op and Pulp Mill Co-Op
Paper mill co-op
The Paper Mill Co-Op will be part of the paper mill team and will have the opportunity to employ the knowledge and analytical faculties developed during their college tenure. The co-op will work closely with various departments, including engineering, quality assurance, manufacturing, and converting. Additionally, the co-op will work with union operators, technicians, pipefitters, instrumentation, and electricians to complete assignments.
Typical co-ops projects have involved assisting the mill with solving wet end chemistry issues on the paper machines, product quality assurance testing, process monitoring, process optimization, wet end variability tracking, product/process data mining, or product improvement projects. The co-op positions involve both self-directed and guided projects to enhance paper machine runnability, improve product quality and reduce manufacturing costs. Co-ops may also have the opportunity to plan and implement paper machine trials.
Pulp mill co-op
The Pulp Mill Co-Op will be part of the pulp mill team and will have the opportunity to employ the knowledge and analytical faculties developed during their college tenure. The co-op will work closely with various departments, including engineering, utilities, wood, and pulp manufacturing. Additionally, the co-op will work with union operators, technicians, pipefitters, instrumentation, and electricians to complete assignments.
Typical co-ops projects have involved pulp mill pulping and bleaching process optimizations, pulp quality testing, process monitoring, and process data mining. The co-op position involves both self-directed and guided projects to enhance Pulp Mill runnability, improve product quality, and reduce manufacturing costs. Co-ops may also have the opportunity to plan and implement pulping and bleaching trials.
Compensation and duration
Compensation: $21.50 per hour
We are looking for 1 Paper Mill Co-Op and 1 Pulp Mill Co-Op for each session:
- Spring (late December 2018/January 2019 - August 2019)
- Fall (late May 2019/June 2019 - mid-January 2020)
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Open to sophomores, juniors, seniors, accelerated masters, graduating after January 2020
- Majors: Chemical engineering and related majors
- U.S. work authorization is required
