Class of 2019
Enrolled Degree: Bachelors of Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering (BBE)
Degree Emphasis: Bioproducts Engineering
Hometown: Sussex, Wisconsin
What drives you to be a BBE Ambassador?
I love being a BBE Ambassador because it gives me the chance to be more involved within my department and allows me to have the opportunity to reach out to new or current students and show them why BBE is great! It also allows me to connect with other students that have similar ambitions and drive as me.
What are your long-term career goals?
In an ideal world, I would love to work in the green chemistry sector on either bioplastics or biofuels. I would love to play a part in creating the next big thing that can help in solving some of the big environmental challenges we face every day.
What is your favorite thing about our department?
The best thing about the department is how it’s more of a community than any other department on campus. Your professors actually know you and say hi to you around campus, even after you’ve finished their class. The class sizes are also quite small, which gives you the opportunity to get to know your peers better.
What are your additional extracurricular activities, hobbies, and/or interests:
I am involved in two different research positions: one in Bo Hu’s lab where I work on the removal of phosphorus, nitrogen, and other pollutants from water, soil, and plants, and one in Brett Barney’s lab where I perform protein purifications to determine the activities of enzyme and other proteins after modifications are made. Along with working, I am part of a professional engineering frat, Kappa Eta Kappa.
What is a fun fact about you?
In the summer of 2017, I had the opportunity to spend three weeks in Norway, Denmark, and Iceland, studying renewable energy production methods all throughout Scandinavia!
