Adjunct Associate Professor, Dr. Sara Heger, and Professor, Dr. Bo Hu, study the effectiveness of Biochar, a highly porous bio-material, and iron-enhanced sand (IES) to enhance the treatment in septic systems of organic matter, bacteria and viruses, nitrogen and phosphorus.
