What drives you to be a BBE Ambassador?
The BBE Department offers a unique program that has a lot to offer but is often not familiar to people. Personally, I struggled to find a major that I was passionate about and eager to be part of until I attended a BBE ambassador presentation. I want to be part of promoting the department and sharing my experiences with prospective students.
What are your long-term career goals?
The biggest thing that drew me to the department was the idea of reducing our dependence on petroleum products. After school I am looking forward to opportunities to work in the pulp and paper industry. Long-term I hope to be able to contribute to creating sustainably sourced products and bio-based alternatives to petroleum products.
What is your favorite thing about our Department?
One thing that is obvious to me is how passionate everyone is. From the professors about their research to classmates and their internships, everyone is thrilled to be a part of something bigger than themselves and eager to share from their experiences.
What are your additional extracurricular activities, hobbies and/or interests?
I am also involved in the Food and Bioproducts Engineering Organization (FaBEO) and the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI). In FaBEO, we are currently working on a project to make paper from buckthorn. In my free time I enjoy hands-on projects, snowboarding, and photography.
What is a fun fact about you?
I went to high school at the Minnesota Zoo.
