Class of 2021
Enrolled Degree: Bachelors of Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering (BBE)
Emphasis: Environmental and Ecological Engineering
Hometown: Maple Grove, Minnesota
What drives you to be a BBE Ambassador?
Since BBE is a smaller department within the School of Science and Engineering, I am driven to spread the word on how versatile and multi-faceted this department is compared to what people assume. A lot of incoming freshman will not hear much about our department even after they come to campus. To be able to foster relationships with prospective students and speak on personal experience with them is what keeps me driven.
What are your long-term career goals?
I would like to serve in a public works position or government-funded agency as an environmental engineer on wastewater treatment or stream restoration projects. At the same time, I am considering a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture or sustainable design after graduation.
What is your favorite thing about our Department?
In our small knit department, I love that the class size is small and that there is a strong relationship between faculty and students. We are in close proximity to a lot of different departments on the St. Paul campus, which allows us to dip our toes into the various subjects applicable to our major (forest services, hydrology, soil and plant science). My favorite thing is that we are our own little community and that every student has strong passions and interests within and outside our major.
What are your additional extracurricular activities, hobbies and/or interests?
I work as a RA at Hegeman Plant Metabolomics lab working on a large-scale Yarrow Achillea millefolium project looking at the compounds within the plant. I also enjoy pottery, painting, and drawing, and travel shows.
What is a fun fact about you?
I have the same name as Ayesha Curry, which I think is pretty cool.
