Developing Innovative Wood Products in Italy

September 14, 2018
9:15am to 12:00pm

Attendance is open and welcome at the following presentations. The objective is to set networking opportunities on the basis of the topics presented.

9:15 am - 10 am

Personal Presentation: Research Activities and Interests (20 minutes)

With the purpose of networking, Dr. Negro's main research and interests will be presented. These include the development of innovative wood-based panels (lightweight, acoustic, and thermally modified), grading of structural timber, carbon storage in wood, and regulations in the wood sector. Personal perspectives and future studies will be presented as well.

Graphic Design for Wood Science Communication (15 minutes)

Visual material is a relevant part of science communication, yet it is often treated as an add-on. Based on Dr. Negro's experience, the basis of drafting images for scientific purposes will be taken into account. These include the use of softwares for raster and vector images and principles of graphic design and visual communication.

11 am - 12 pm

The Wood Sector in Italy: Overview and Innovation

The Italian wood sector is large and accounts for 1.6% of the national gross domestic product. An outline will be given through a description of its forest-wood supply chain, enterprises, products, research network, and others. Recent innovation will be illustrated as well, particularly with regard to structural timber, poplar cultivation, and new wood-based products.
