A Gopher welcome to Fulbright Scholar Jesus Castano Colciencias!  Jesus Castano Colciencias

Castano Colciencias is a Bioproducts and Biosystems Science, Engineering and Management student at the PhD level, advised by Professor Jonathan Schilling.

The Fulbright Scholar Program is a program of competitive, merit-based grants for international educational exchange for students, scholars, teachers, professionals, scientists and artists, founded by United States Senator J. William Fulbright in 1946.

In the Schilling Lab, Castano Colciencias plans to study the mechanisms of fungi that decompose non-edible plant tissues (i.e. wood). He will be applying these mechanisms, and the underlying genes and proteins discovered and characterized, to commercially-relevant systems including bioprocessing for fuels and chemicals.
